Business Development Manager

Hooker & Holcombe, New England’s premier regional retirement consulting firm with 60 plus employees is seeking a full time Business Development Manager. Our sales team has an immediate need for a full-time sales professional with a proven track record of originating new business. This individual will be responsible for driving sales with prospects, center of influences and strategic alliance partners.

Job Dutes and Responsibilities

  • Strong, in-depth ERISA and qualified plan knowledge.
  • Ability to learn multiple platform/product solutions and apply the right solution to address the prospect’s needs:
    • Discuss in detail recordkeeping operations for defined contribution services
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about defined benefit solutions and pension administration
    • Understanding of expenses of investment products and the impact of certain share classes on overall “cost” of services
  • Ability to discuss industry trends with plan sponsors and financial/human resource benefit professionals as well as prospect retirement committees
  • Strong knowledge of key competitors and the ability to showcase the firm’s competitive advantages without the use of “negative selling” tactics
  • Form and maintain productive, working relationships with financial/human resource benefit professionals with the goal of earning their retirement plan business
  • Complete management reports, expense reports and other special tasks as requested
  • Assist consultants in the retention of current business, as needed
  • Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned
  • Ability to attend meetings in the Northeast, mainly day travel with some evening events and/or meetings; expected travel ranges between 40%-60% with limited overnight travel

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of sales origination experience in the retirement plan industry
  • Ability to generate leads and close new business
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong working relationships with centers of influence in the Northeast region and the ability to drive and meet with clients/prospects in order to promote our solutions
  • Superior time management skills required
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with significant telephone and personal interactions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, CRM and web applications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred professional certification/designations: QKA, ARPS, CRPS
  • Insurance license not required
