Retirement Plan Education Specialist

Hooker & Holcombe (H&H) located in West Harford, CT is one of the fastest-growing actuarial, retirement services and investment advisory consulting firms in New England. The Investment Advisor Unit has an immediate need for a full-time Retirement Plan Education Specialist. The primary responsibility of the Education Specialist is to provide investment education and retirement plan expertise to the employees of H&H’s retirement plan clients. The candidate selected will be responsible to engage, organize, and effectively conduct education meetings at client locations throughout New England and the tristate area. You will work directly with external clients and vendors as well as internal client advisors to deliver the appropriate strategy that will drive improved retirement outcomes for the employees of our diverse client base.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the Investment Consultant, Plan Sponsor, and record-keeper to provide appropriate education solutions.
  • Ability to perform effective presentations to diverse groups with varied financial backgrounds.
  • Develop and update seminar materials as appropriate.
  • Present workshops on a number of topics including investment options within the plan and social security benefits.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings for participants to help retirement plan participants make informed decisions about their retirement savings and payout strategies.
  • Utilize eMoney to generate retirement income analysis, as needed.
  • Report and document the development and delivery of education solutions to Investment Consultant and/or Plan Sponsor.
  • Must have own transportation to travel locally. Minimal travel outside New England and the tristate area.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and organizational skills; must have proven record of success.
  • Well versed in defined contribution plans and design features including 401(k), 403(b) and 457 Plans
  • Experienced in delivering group presentations to institutional clients covering many retirement topics including investing basics, retirement savings vehicles, Social Security benefits, and Medicare benefits
  • Experienced in meeting with individuals one-on-one.
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word & PowerPoint)
  • Knowledgeable concerning mutual funds, asset allocation and diversification concepts
  • Ability to interact effectively in a dynamic team environment while working independently to deliver education solutions to retirement plan clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience or more in the financial services industry with experience in personal markets, retirement planning, and educating participants.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FINRA Series 65 (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Defined benefit plan knowledge
  • Experience using eMoney
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
